These days pro bono and access to justice are hot topics across the state. But what can judges do to increase access to justice? It turns out the answer is a lot. This session will cover the ethical considerations that arise when judges participate in pro bono efforts, and will provide you with concrete steps you can take to help increase access to justice in your community without crossing any ethical lines. Some of the questions we will address include:

a. What are the appropriate ways for judges to recognize lawyers’ pro bono efforts?
b. Can judges appoint lawyers to pro bono cases?
c. What does the duty of “Administration of Justice” mean in practical terms?
d. What are judges doing to help strengthen the culture of pro bono in Texas?
